Ann was performing her daily routines (at her home in Laikipia), when she heard of disturbances and ruckus at the cow shed in her compound. Cattle rustlers with guns had invaded and raided her homestead!

Gunshots were fired! All her cattle stolen! Unfortunately, in the commotion one of the bullets had hit her to the head! Unconscious at this point and with blood flowing and brain matter gushing from her shuttered skull, some of those who saw her including her husband, children and neighbors thought she was dead.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner align="right" align_sm="center" width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="2287" margin_top="0" margin_bottom="0" scroll_animation="fadeInRight" size="full" image_stretch="normalwidth" overlay="none" item_link_type="no-link" captions_below="hide" captions_below_link_type="item" caption_align="center" hover_filter="none" hover_filter_invert="image-filter-onhover" button_text_zoom="View Larger" button_text_details="More Details" overlay_caption_vertical="middle" overlay_animation="fade-in" overlay_grid="0" overlay_icon="link"][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][divider visibility="hide" background_colour="#FFFFF" md_height="60" lg_height="100"][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner align="left" align_sm="center" width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="278" margin_top="0" margin_bottom="0" scroll_animation="fadeInRight" size="full" image_stretch="normalwidth" overlay="none" item_link_type="no-link" captions_below="hide" captions_below_link_type="item" caption_align="center" hover_filter="none" hover_filter_invert="image-filter-onhover" button_text_zoom="View Larger" button_text_details="More Details" overlay_caption_vertical="middle" overlay_animation="fade-in" overlay_grid="0" overlay_icon="link"][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner align="right" align_sm="center" width="1/2"][heading header_type="h3" header_weight="bold" header_align="right" margin_top="0" margin_bottom="0" scroll_animation="fadeIn" sub_header_size="lead" header_condensed="condensed" header_underline="bordered" header_underline_size="bordered-normal" sub_header="We really like designing unique out of the box themes. The bullet had entered through the left side of her head, and penetrated her skull just above the ear and exited, causing brain damage and destroying part of her skull. The resident neurosurgeon, carefully devised a treatment plan. Her life at this point was hanging in the balance and the necessary action to save her life was made. The husband and close family members present were briefed on the emergency course of actions that needed to be taken to save her life.

The first course of action was Decompressive Craniotomy.  This was an emergency operation that was done after stabilizing Ann. It was successful. A section of the skull, called a bone flap, is removed to access the brain underneath. A craniotomy may be small or large depending on the problem. It may be performed to treat brain tumors, hematomas (blood clots), aneurysms or AVMs, traumatic head injury, foreign objects (bullets), swelling of the brain, or infection. The bone flap is usually replaced at the end of the procedure with tiny plates and screws.[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner align="left" align_sm="center" width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="124" margin_top="0" margin_bottom="0" scroll_animation="fadeInRight" size="full" image_stretch="normalwidth" overlay="none" item_link_type="no-link" captions_below="hide" captions_below_link_type="item" caption_align="center" hover_filter="none" hover_filter_invert="image-filter-onhover" button_text_zoom="View Larger" button_text_details="More Details" overlay_caption_vertical="middle" overlay_animation="fade-in" overlay_grid="0" overlay_icon="link"][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner align="right" align_sm="center" width="1/2"][heading header_type="h3" header_weight="bold" header_align="right" margin_top="0" margin_bottom="0" scroll_animation="fadeIn" sub_header_size="lead" header_condensed="condensed" header_underline="bordered" header_underline_size="bordered-normal" sub_header="We really like designing unique out of the box themes.
